Cumberland County Superior Court Case Search
The Cumberland County Superior Court oversees all criminal, civil, and family law cases. The easiest way to find Superior Court records is to go to the Find a Case page and use any of the portals to search for the appropriate record. However, public family court records cannot be found through this method. Another way to find public Superior Court records is to download the Records Request Form and electronically submit it to on Judiciary Electronic Document Submission (JEDS) portal. The requests will be processed during normal business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Cumberland County District Court Records
New Jersey has several kinds of courts, not including the District Court. They include the New Jersey Supreme Court, the Superior Court (which includes the Appellate Division), the Tax Court, and the Municipal Courts.
Cumberland County Criminal Records
Per New Jersey Administrative Code (N.J.A.C.) 13:59-1 et seq., criminal records are public information. A criminal record refers to any information collected by criminal justice agencies on a person that consists of identifiable descriptions and notations of arrests, detentions, indictments, and dispositions. Since criminal records include arrest information, a requester might choose to obtain Cumberland County arrest records. The Cumberland County Department of Corrections (DOC) provides arrest information online through the Incarcerated Person Lookup Tool and in person.
Individuals can obtain copies of Cumberland County criminal records from the New Jersey State Police. These records can be retrieved through:
- Fingerprints: Subjects of records can visit any of the third-party approved fingerprint-capturing sites to conduct a criminal history record information (CHRI). - Name: authorized requesters must submit an SBI 212B form to conduct a name-based criminal record search. The request can be submitted online for $20, payable by card.
Cumberland County Criminal Court Case Lookup
The Superior Court’s Criminal Division processes and manages all indictable criminal cases of adult offenders in Cumberland County. Interested persons can find criminal court case records online, by mail, or in person at the courthouse. Online requests can be made through:
- The PROMIS/Gavel Public Access portal (the search criteria are by name, indictment/accusations numbers, and CDR number)
- Criminal Judgments Public Access portal (conduct a search by county, defendant, indictment/accusation number, CDR number, SBI number, and PROMIS case-defendant number)
- Complete the Records Request Form and submit it online through the Judiciary Electronic Document Submission (JEDS).
Record seekers can also request criminal court records by mail or in person at the courthouse. Mail requesters must submit a Records Request Form alongside the necessary fees. Delivery can be made by pick up, US mail, onsite inspection, fax, or email.
Get Cumberland County Civil Court Records
The Cumberland County Superior Court’s Civil Division handles cases that involve disputes where a plaintiff claims the actions of the defendant cause them hurt and seeks monetary compensation. Specifically, the Division only handles cases where the amount in controversy exceeds $20,000. Cases where the amount in controversy is between $5,000 and $20,000 are heard in the Special Civil Part of the Civil Division. The Special Civil Part also handles small claims cases ($5,000 or less). Cumberland County Family Court Records
The Cumberland Superior Court Family Division has jurisdiction over cases like divorce, paternity, adoption, custody, parenting time, child support, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency, family crisis, foster care placement, kinship legal guardianship, abuse and neglect, and termination of parental rights. Most family records are confidential, while others, like divorce, are not. Individuals can only retrieve family court records in person at the courthouse. Cumberland Dissolution of Marriage Records
Cumberland County residents often use the term "dissolution of marriage" interchangeably with "divorce". Consequently, individuals seeking dissolution of marriage records can obtain them in the same manner as divorce records. The Superior Court Family Division provides access to dissolution of marriage records in person during business hours. The record staff requires a name or docket number and a nominal fee to process the request.
Cumberland County Marriage and Divorce Records
Divorce records are public in Cumberland County and are available through the Superior Court Family Division. These records can be retrieved in person at the courthouse. A name or docket number will be required to facilitate the search. The Clerk’s Office issues divorce records for a nominal fee.
Cumberland County marriage records are confidential and become public after 50 years. They are only open to the subject of the record, parents, legal guardians, legal representatives, spouses, children, grandchildren, siblings, and a person with a court order. Cumberland County marriage certificates are issued by the Local Vital Records Office in the municipality where the marriage occurred. A fee and basic information are required to retrieve a certified copy of marriage documents. For example, Maurice River Township Vital Statistics and Registry disseminates certified copies of marriage records by mail and in person. The fees cost $10 per copy and $5 for each additional copy. A valid ID is required to process the request. Mail applicants must submit an Application for a Certificate or Certified Copy.
Cumberland Birth and Death Records
In New Jersey, Vital records are not part of Cumberland County public records. Therefore, birth and death records are not open to the public. Birth records become public after 80 years, and 40 years for death records. The following people have the authority to request Cumberland County vital records of birth and death events:
- The subject of the record, if of legal age (Cumberland County birth records only)
- Parents, children, siblings, grandparents, and current spouse
- A legal representative with a court order
- A guardian with legal custody of a minor child
- A federal, state, or local government agency
Requesters can obtain copies of birth and death records from the Local Vital Records Office in the municipality in which the event occurred. Birth and death records cost between $10 and $25, depending on the municipality. For example, the Bridgeton Office of the Registrar issues certified copies of birth and death certificates by mail and in person. Mail requesters must submit an Application for Original Certified Record Copy form to the office. Birth certificates cost $20 each, while death certificates cost $10 each.
Cumberland County Probate Court Records
The Cumberland County Surrogate Court handles probate cases like estate and wills. Probate court records can be retrieved in person at the courthouse. It is advisable to contact the Court at (856) 453-4800 before making in-person requests. Copies of probate court records cost $3 per page, and certified copies cost $5 per page. Payments can be made by check or cash. Requesters must come to the court along with a photo ID. The Court is open from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Cumberland County Clerk's Office issues property records from 1960 to 1987 through the Image Viewer and records from 1987 to the present online through the Online Services. Individuals can also request property records during business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The turnaround time for property record requests is about 2 to 3 weeks, but it can differ depending on volume.
Cumberland County Assessor’s and Tax Collector’s Offices issues property records online. Most of them have online links and maps where requesters can view property records for free. Copies of property records can be retrieved in person from the Assessor or Tax Collector’s Office in the municipality where the property is located. A basic property information like name, property address, or parcel ID may be required to initiate the search. A fee is request to access copies.
